Emergent Paths
In Emergent Paths, I use hand-scribed styrofoam printing plates to build patterns that connect and repeat across the surface. Each painting uses a different plate shape, and the plates are made to fit together, allowing the printed forms to travel in different directions. I love the imperfection and slightly “distressed” quality that results from the low tech styrofoam printing. I enjoy having a basic system to work with and then seeing what happens when I start making choices within that system. I vary the placement and direction of each print and respond to the unexpected designs that begin to appear. Painting and drawing are added to the printed forms, creating a conversation between the planned pattern and the marks that happen along the way.
