I’m an artist and musician based in the Chicago area making abstract paintings shaped by my love of rhythm, movement, pattern, and color.
After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1986 I followed my musical ambitions, spending many years playing in Chicago rock bands. When I returned to painting in 2023, I found that music had stayed with me. Rhythm and repetition can create movement and energy, and I’m fascinated by how those ideas can work visually.
My paintings draw inspiration from space imagery, microscopic photography, mineral textures, dyed fabrics, and the biomorphic abstractionists of the mid-twentieth century. I combine intuitive painting with patterns and structures that give me something to push against. I’m excited by the tension between order and spontaneity, geometry and organic form, and the familiar and the mysterious.
Ultimately, I want the paintings to feel alive—almost musical—and leave room for each viewer to find their own connections.
