From One Reception to the Next: A Great Start for Linkage
The last couple of weeks have brought some exciting moments for the Linkage series, with two exhibitions opening just days apart. I had a wonderful time at the reception for Later Impressions at the Art Center Highland Park, and now I'm looking forward to the reception for the Acrylic International Biennial at the Kenosha Public Museum this coming Saturday.
The reception at Art Center Highland Park was everything I could have hoped for. The space itself is beautiful, and the event was very well attended. I was particularly impressed by the quality and variety of the work in the exhibition. There were multiple styles and approaches represented, which made walking through the show an especially interesting experience.
It was also great to reconnect with artists I already knew and to meet several others for the first time. One of the highlights for me was seeing the response to Linkage: The Guardian. The painting was drawing quite a bit of attention, and I received some very positive feedback from other artists. That kind of response is especially meaningful to me because it's always interesting to hear how other artists experience a painting and what they notice in it.
Later Impressions will remain on view at the Art Center Highland Park through September 26, so there is still plenty of time to see it if you're in the area.
And now there's another exciting event on the horizon.
On Saturday, August 15, I received an email from the curator of exhibits at the Kenosha Public Museum regarding the upcoming reception for the Acrylic International Biennial, which takes place this Saturday, August 22. The email also contained a very welcome surprise: Linkage: Crossing Currents has received an Honorable Mention award in the exhibition.
I'm really looking forward to attending the reception and seeing the exhibition in person. Having Crossing Currentsincluded in the Biennial was already something I was excited about, so receiving an award makes the upcoming visit that much more special.
It's been gratifying to see these Linkage paintings finding their way into different exhibitions and to hear the responses from artists and viewers along the way. The series began as an exploration of structure, rhythm, pattern, and interconnected forms, and it's rewarding to see the individual paintings continue that exploration in new settings.
Two receptions, two very different exhibitions, and a lot to look forward to. I'm curious to see where the series goes from here.
